With its mix of rogue-like characters and dark sense of humor, this black comedy plays like an Irish cousin of Trainspotting. The swearing is near non-stop and includes variants of "f-k" as well as "c-t." Characters are seen drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes either in pubs or with meals. A couple also engage in consensual slapping during intercourse until one of them punches the other causing them to stop. A couple is shown in bed and there is some kissing, but this is not explicit. Sex is infrequent, but it is both discussed and shown in varying degrees. Violence features occasionally and though some of it is played for comedic effect there are a couple of graphic examples, such as a man punching a defenseless woman and drawing blood. However, Sally ( Shirley Henderson) is shown to be part of a caring family as her mother helps her deal with a past trauma that still affects her outlook on life and relationships. Because many of the characters resort to amoral or illegal means to achieve their goals, the movie is light on positive messages and role models. The ensemble cast includes Cillian Murphy, Colin Farrell, and Kelly Macdonald in several interweaving stories - including a kidnap plot - set in the city of Dublin in Ireland. Parents need to know that Intermission is an Irish dark comedy with an all-star cast, as well as strong language, violence, and sex.
